Uncontested Will
āBlessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.ā (Matthew 5:5). In law school right now Iām learning all about inheritances and wills and probate court. If a will is properly executed and there are no inheritors to contest it, then itās going to sail through probate court pretty smoothly. But if one or more potential heirs are unhappy with the terms of the will, they may wish to dispute it. And then the estate can get stuck in probate for quite a long time. God has an inheritance prepared for each of us. And He is ready and willing to give us a good chunk of that inheritance right now here on earth. But if we want to receive our inheritance, then we have to abide by the terms of His will. If we try to contest it, or submit evidence that this is not what the will ought to be, then the will has to go to probate court. Unfortunately, many of us keep filing appeal after appeal and we delay receiving any inheritance until we get to heaven. If we are stubborn and prideful and refuse to submit to the will, then we donāt get to inherit here on Earth. But if we are meek, then we donāt have to wait for heaven. We can begin inheriting right here on Earth. And isnāt it just a little silly. Imagine that the Judge responsible for determining the validity of the will is also the person that wrote the will. How are we going to tell God, your Honor, all due respect, but I think I know a little better than you do what your real intention was in leaving me this inheritance? It doesnāt make any sense. Look, maybe our inheritance isnāt everything that we hoped for. Maybe some of the conditions that God has imposed on us receiving our inheritance are a little difficult. But is it really better to just keep challenging the will over and over until we never inherit anything? I know that being meek and swallowing our pride and submitting to our Fatherās will even when we really donāt want to can sometimes be the hardest thing in the world. But I also know that God has prepared a lot of our inheritance for us to use and enjoy here on earth. And the only way that we can inherit on earth is if we are meek. So let us be meek and be blessed and cheerfully submit to our Fatherās will that we may inherit on Earth and in Heaven.
