Two Mights
“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” (Mark 12:42-44). Sometimes the very best that we can offer the Lord is maybe. We wish we could do better. We wish that we could have a blazing faith unburdened by doubts or unbelief. We want more than anything to have this wicked and rebellious pride rooted out of our hearts. We love our Savior Jesus Christ and hate that we keep falling for the same temptations and adding to His and to our own suffering. Wouldn't everything be so much better if we could confidently say, I will, rather than, I might. But if the Lord honored the widow and her two mites, then He will also honor our two mights and maybes. God is not tracking our progress with a stopwatch and a measuring tape. He cares more about each of us that can only make it to the lobby of the church but no farther, than He does about ninety nine people that boldly march in without any kind of struggle. God does not run quality control on our prayers. If all we can do is stand outside the temple, unable even to look up, smite our breast and say, “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13), that is enough. God expects no more and no less from us than our all, and if our all is just a couple of mights, then that is all He needs from us.
