To Comfort Me When Faint

¹“He lives to comfort me when faint” (Samuel Medley, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”). One of the problems with developing a closer relationship to our Heavenly Father, our Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost is that the more clearly and intimately we perceive and understand the mind and the will and the power and the glory of the Godhead, the smaller and weaker and more insignificant we will tend to view ourselves by comparison. It is a good thing indeed that Jesus Christ lives to comfort us when faint, because we will grow to recognize more and more that we are “faint” not just occasionally but pretty much constantly. “And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” (Ether 12:27). When we come unto Jesus Christ, He will show us just how weak we are. But then He will comfort us. He will be by our side to give us the strength and the determination and, above all, the humility and the patience to endure our weakness for as long as it takes to become strong. It is painful to be filled with such strong and righteous desires to do good for ourselves and for our neighbors and yet to be shackled with such weaknesses that realizing our righteous desires seems almost impossible. But our Savior will comfort us in our weakness and work with us step by step until we become strong.
