Thy Will Be Done

¹“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10). Wouldn’t it be amazing if our prayers were guaranteed to be effective every single time? It seems too good to be true, but it’s actually pretty simple to make this happen. All we have to do is make sure that when we pray, we tell the Lord - and truly mean it! - that our greatest wish is for His will to be done. If we are sincere, then our prayer will be answered favorably every single time. It makes sense. After all, if we were to place bets on whose will would be carried out - the will of a Supreme Being and Lord of all Creation or that of a single weak and puny human, I’m sure that most of us would put our money on God. Except usually we don’t. So often when we pray we pridefully demand not Thy will but mine be done. But this isn’t exactly smart on our part. After all, unless we have the emotional maturity of a toddler, we don’t always get what we want. So many things that we desperately want just never come to fruition. On the other hand, there is nothing in heaven or on earth that can prevent the will of our Eternal Father from coming to pass. When we turn our prayers into some kind of contest of wills, we could just as easily stand on the tracks of a railroad and try to stop an oncoming train. At best, we end up hurt and broken and don’t slow anything down at all. On the other hand, when we decide that we are going to have the humility and the love for our Heavenly Father to trust Him and let His will be done, then instead of having the train run right over the top of us, we get to ride inside the train where it is safe and warm and gets us to our destination in one piece with minimal delay. I hope that we can all try to embrace God’s will and enjoy prayers that are always answered favorably.
