The Perfection of Beauty

¹“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.” (Psalms 50:2). “And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.” (Moses 7:18). Here we have two descriptions of Zion. They were of one heart and one mind, and they were the perfection of beauty. Can we actually attain a perfection of beauty if we are not all of one heart and one mind? Is not a perfection of beauty the natural and proper result of us being of one heart and one mind? Just picture it. Every single one of us courageously and boldly doing exactly what we were born to do. If we were all of one heart and one mind, then we would have the humility and the confidence and the generosity of spirit to allow everyone else to have their own moment in the spotlight. We would not be jealous or envious of one another’s gifts or privileges because we would know that every single one of God's children is a vital and indispensable thread in His grand tapestry, a note in His great symphony, a pigment in His masterpiece. We would all bring out the best in each other. We would rush to pick each other up when one of us stumbles, and cheer as joyfully and as enthusiastically as anyone when one of us succeeds. Would not such unity of heart and mind lead to a perfection of beauty? Could there possibly be anything more perfectly beautiful than every person on this Earth at the same time fitting in as if they had always belonged and also being allowed to let their light shine for all to see? I hope to one day see Zion where all of us are of one heart and one mind and we have truly reached a perfection of beauty. Until that day comes, let us all try to make the beauty all around us a little more perfect by not taking each other for granted or thinking less of others or of ourselves. Beauty cannot be made perfect if even a single one of us is missing. May we all strive to become of one heart and one mind so that we may all shine out in the perfection of beauty.
