The Lord Trieth The Righteous

“The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.” (Psalms 11:5). When we are suffering through trials and afflictions, we might be tempted to draw the conclusion that God hates us. But the exact opposite is true. In fact, it is only the righteous and those that God particularly loves and favors that get his trials. The wicked have enough problems of their own making. They have embarked on a self guided learning style and have created plenty of tests and trials for themselves, many of which are much harsher and more challenging than God would have liked for them to go through. Do we really think that God is going to try very hard to test the wicked when they are already struggling so much as it is? That would be too much like kicking them when they are already down. But the righteous. Those of us who truly strive to obey God's commandments and qualify for His blessings, we are in good enough shape that God trusts that we will be able to handle some extra tests and trials. It's like students in school who are gifted. Their reward for doing exceedingly well on tests is to be given much more tests. So let's not be too discouraged if it feels like the tests are coming fast and fierce. That just means that God has seen how righteous we are and is putting us on an accelerated course. God loves all of His children but He especially favors those who are not too busy making up their own tests but are righteous and obedient enough to qualify for even more trials.
