Passing the Cherubim

¹When Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, the Lord summoned Cherubim to keep the way of the Tree of Life. The next time that we see cherubim is when the Lord commands Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant. The ornate lid of the ark, also called the Mercy Seat, features two golden Cherubim, whose wings spread over the Ark. The Ark contains God’s covenants with His children. The mercy seat is the place where God dwells when He visits His people. Because this dwelling place was so sacred, the high priest could only approach the Ark on one day of the year - the Day of Atonement. On this day, the High Priest would place the blood of the Atonement on the Mercy Seat, right between those two cherubim. Although the cherubim keep the way of the Tree of Life, the atoning blood allows safe passage through the Cherubim with their flaming swords. Thanks to the Atoning blood of Jesus Christ, the way to the Tree of Life has been reopened. For all of those who have been washed clean and anointed with the Blood of Christ, the Cherubim will grant them safe passage and allow them to partake of the fruit of the Tree of Life and live forever. I am so grateful that even though we have all sinned and been cut off from the Tree of Life, we can nevertheless pass by the Cherubim with their flaming swords and enter into the rest of the Lord and dwell with Christ and with our families for all eternity.
