I Will Save Her That Halteth

ā€œBehold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.ā€ (Zephaniah 3:19). Jesus Christ came to this Earth for one purpose - to save God’s children. If Jesus Christ is going to be able to do His part, then we have to do ours. And what might that be? If Jesus’s purpose is to save, then part of our purpose is to be saved. Being saved is not a one time event. Our purpose is not to be saved until we are eight or eighteen, but to be saved every day, every moment even, of our lives. Many of our egos are too big to accept the fact that we must always and forever be the damsels in distress. We have feeling so small and helpless when we get stuck once again and we have to wait on the Lord to come save us. It’s humiliating. So a lot of us spend a lot of our lives running away from the merest whiff of failure or imperfection. We may tell ourselves that we have to keep going to stay ahead of the devil and his temptations, but really we are only avoiding Jesus because we don’t want to acknowledge that we messed up yet again and He needs to come save us. When we finally halt and stand still and are brave enough to let the truth sink in, we will be able to see that once again we were weak and foolish and fell for the same tired lies we always fall for and that we can’t get out of this mess on our own. In short, when we halt we recognize that we do need saving. And when we halt, that is when we are saved. Jesus is thrilled every time that we are faithful and obedient and choose the right. But He also understands and is filled with nothing but love and compassion when He gets to reach down and save us after we’ve fallen once again. Let’s stop running away from the truth that we can’t do this all on our own. We need to be saved every now and again. And that’s OK.
