I Will Give Thee For A Light
โI the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.โ (Isaiah 42:6-7). It is true that God loves us so much that He would do anything He could to save us, even if He got nothing out of it besides our safe return. But that's not the only reason why God has moved heaven and earth and given up His Only Begotten Son just to save us, ungrateful and unfaithful and prone to wandering and rebellion as we are. God did not give each of us a light that is all our own and a commandment to let it shine just because He's a big fan of light. There are people in our lives who are blind and whose eyes can only be opened by our light and no one else's. God doesn't call us to labor in His vineyard just because He saw us sitting around and wanted to give us something to do. Precious children of His are trapped in prison and we are the only ones with the key to get them out. God will hold us by the hand. He will keep us close. He will lift us up so that our light may shine and He will offer us as a covenant to release those who are in bondage. This is why we are called. This is why we are chosen. This is why, despite what we have done, all of the awful mistakes we have made and the grief and pain we have caused, nevertheless God has saved us for a wise purpose. We all know and remember with gratitude and humility the special light of those who opened our eyes and the acts of kindness that unlocked the doors to our prisons. Well, now it is our turn. It is no small thing to let our light shine. There are people trapped in darkness that only our light can reach. Let us show to God that He was not wrong in calling us and keeping us around and let our light shine out to all of those precious souls who are still trapped.
