God Is Not In All His Thoughts
“The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” (Psalms 10:4). If God is not in all of the thoughts of a wicked person, then it stands to reason that if we want to avoid being wicked, there's a pretty simple solution. All we have to do is make sure that God is in all of our thoughts. Well, perhaps that is easier said than done. However, the other thing that this verse says that the wicked do not do is that they do not seek after God. I think having God in all of our thoughts is less about us sort of mentally saying the word God over and over in a constant loop. For one thing, that's not very practical and it doesn't actually get us any closer to our goal. We need to let go of this idea that we must somehow cloister ourselves in our room free from all worldly distractions so that nothing ungodly ever makes its way into our thoughts. The truth is, God is everywhere and in and a part of all things. Whatever we are experiencing or looking at or thinking about has God in it. But if we aren't seeking after God, then we are going to miss Him. God will only be in those parts of our thoughts where He's completely obvious. We don't have to wait for God to jump out from behind a burning bush and shout to get our attention. If we feel lost and alone and completely abandoned by God, it is not that God has forsaken us but that we have ceased to seek after Him. The more often that we seek after God, the more of our thoughts will God be in. And when we have figured out how to find God in every single one of our thoughts, then will we truly be able to say that there is no wickedness or pride left in us.
