A Little Lower Than The Angels
“For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.” (Psalms 8:5). When we read in the scriptures about visits from angels, they are always awe-inspiring and maybe even terrifying. Their presence shines as bright as the noonday sun and they speak with voices so powerful that they cause the earth to shake. Such wondrous beings seem to be operating on a whole other level than us. But God has made us a little lower than the angels. Not a lot lower, not so far below them that we can’t even see them with a telescope. A little lower. Do we truly believe that? Do we truly believe that with the Lord’s help we can do almost anything that an angel could do? We are children of God, made in His image, and if we are worthy we stand to inherit all that He has. Satan and his followers were cast out for their rebellion. They have been made much, much lower than both us and the angels. And in the lowness of their estate they are miserable and they would like for us to be just as miserable as they are. And the easiest way for them to make us miserable is to make us feel that we are cast down to just as lowly a state as they are. But we are not meant to crawl on our bellies like a serpent. Whenever we feel that we are useless or worthless, we must remember that God has made us only a little lower than the angels, and is prepared to crown us with glory and honor according to our faithfulness. Let us all stand tall and strive every day to live up to our angelic potential.
